Model 4 Details
This guitar is modeled on a wonderful Brazillian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce Martin 000 28 I played at Elderly Instruments in 1984. I couldn’t afford it. It was $1200.00! So I got the dimensions and started building them when I returned form the U.S. Mine are a little different, but they have the same rich bass and well defined, full bodied treble response all the way up the neck. The lack of access to the many high frets may bother some, but one of my Model 4s is a favourite guitar of bluesman Eric Bibb. When I first met Celtic guitar maestro Tony McManus he was playing a similar model form a Scottish luthier. With it’s short 630mm scale, relatively shallow mid-sized body and balanced tension of a slotted headstock, this guitar is a joy to hold and play. I also make it with a 640mm scale giving better response for Drop D and lower tunings.
