Nowadays we would call this a small-bodied guitar.  The C.F. Martin company called a very similar guitar to this a “concert” sized guitar, designed to fill a small concert venue.   These guitars can do this.  The small size gives acoustic efficiency.  They have a well balanced sound with a very good midrange and treble response, the frequencies we hear most easily.  Originally they were made with gut strings.  With steel strings and appropriate bracing this model 2 projects a warm, dry sound perfect for blues, fingerstyle and old time American accompaniment.

Indian Rosewood and "Bearclaw" Sitka Spruce Model 2

These are my preferred tonewoods for this model.  Sitka, Adirondack or European spruce all give slightly difference tonal colours to suit the player.  Select Indian rosewood for the back and sides, African Blackwood or rosewood bridges and ebony fingerboard make this a very classy little guitar.  For a cleaner, brighter sound and lighter appearance Australian Black Acacia can be substituted for the back and sides.  There are other wood choices which can be discussed too.  This picture is showing an optional soundport as well.
